The Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient component of Páramo’s Counseling Center is based on the philosophy that chemical dependency is an addictive disease that causes a person to lose control over use of alcohol or other mood-altering chemicals. This loss of control causes physical, psychological, social and spiritual problems. The total person is affected. Sobriety is living a meaningful and comfortable life without the need for alcohol or other mood-altering chemicals.

Another component of the Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient Services philosophy is its affirmation of an individualized treatment process within a non-programmatic treatment approach. The foundation for individualized treatment is established first by the overall standards of treatment which assure each patient a quality therapeutic environment, and by case conferences that provide a thorough and ongoing assessment of each patient’s clinical needs and progress.

The Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient Services functions as a multifaceted treatment aimed at interrupting patterns of drinking/drugging while keeping the individual in his or her community.
Chemical dependency is also a family disease. Family members and significant others suffer serious consequences and unknowingly contribute to the continuation of this disease.
Paramo’s Counseling Center’s philosophy encompasses the belief that chemical dependency is a treatable disease. The Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient Services offer a high quality comprehensive treatment program based on the principles which have proven effectiveness and up-to-date treatment modalities.
As a chronic and progressive disease, chemical dependency does not spontaneously improve without treatment. Denial and ignorance are the factors which most frequently foster the development and continuation of chemical dependency. Without an accurate understanding of this disease, its dynamics, symptoms and expected outcome, traditional modes of intervention ironically fail.
